In Ground Pool Cleaners
A hydraulics engineer who goes by the name of Ferdinand Chauvier from South Africa invented
the first In Ground pool cleaner in 1951. He understood that there was a lot of scope in the pool cleaning business
and wanted to invent a machine that could clean the pool effectively and automatically. But it wasn’t till 1971
that he invented the Kreepy Krauly In Ground pool cleaner. The first of its kind.
In ground pool cleaners have been being used for many years therefore there are a lot of different In Ground
pool cleaners to choose from.
There are 4 basic types of In Ground pool cleaners:
- Suction-side pool cleaners
- Pressure-side cleaners
- Robotic pool cleaners
- Electronic pool cleaner
Suction-side pool cleaners
These in ground pool cleaners usually connect to the swimming pools suction ports. Generally installed using
skimmer ports. Suction is created by the underside of the In Ground Poll cleaner as a result of water being pulled
out of the pool with the help of a pump. Debris and dust is vacuumed by this type of In Ground pool cleaner through
the hose and goes into the filter pump strainer basket. The cleaning pattern can be adjusted to achieve maximum
efficiency by making minor changes like changing the hose length, water volume and water flow. One of the main
advantages of this type of In Ground pool cleaners is that it can be easily installed. Pentair Kreepy Krauly,
Hayward pool vac ultra, Hayward King ray and Hayward Sun ray are some of the examples of this type of In Ground
pool cleaners.
Pressure-side pool cleaners
These type of In ground pool cleaners get attached to the return side of the pools circulation system. These
type of In Ground pool cleaners have a separate bag in which the debris is collected. The water that is pumped back
to the pool is the source of power for these type of pool cleaners. Based on the model of the pool cleaner these
type of In Ground pool cleaners need cleaner dedicated lines and booster pumps. Apart from distributing clean water
to the entire pool the Pressure-side pool cleaner has another advantage that is it does not compromise the filter
system of the pool. They are not the best of In Grund pool cleaner but they are durable and have a good reputation
of lasting long if properly handled. Basically it is a good investment. The Hayward phantom, Polaris 380 and
Polaris 185 are some of the examples of these type of pool cleaners
Robotic pool cleaners
These type of In Ground pool cleaners run throughout the pool filtration system in an independent fashion. They
require an in built motor with locomotion and suction therefore they cannot function without electricity. These
type of In Ground pool cleaners are connected to a transformer which draws electricity from an outdoor outlet. The
Robotic In Ground pool cleaners are the most sophisticated gadgets available in the pool cleaning field. They are
fast and efficient. Although these type of In ground pool cleaners are slightly on the expensive side but the
services they offer are definitely worth the money. These pool cleaners save a lot of valuable time of there buyer.
An economic option for the In ground pool cleaner would be the nitro. Hayward Aqua-Vac and the Aqua-Vac plus are
some more examples of these type of robotic In Ground pool cleaners.
Electronic pool cleaners
These type of In Ground pool cleaners have a central component known as the motor block. The motor block
consists of a pump, processor and drive motor. This type of In Ground pool cleaner moves back and forth around the
pool wit the help of wheels. Many of these pool cleaners have a rubber foot which changes the direction of the
cleaner whenever necessary.
